Music

At St. Patrick's we aim to provide every opportunity for children to develop their musical skills and knowledge.
We have developed a strong music programme in which children are encouraged to enjoy all aspects of music. All year groups have weekly forty-minute with a specialist music teacher. In addition, children often participate in singing in class with their class teachers.

Singing is strongly encouraged throughout the school. St. Patrick’s boasts a successful school choir that rehearses twice a week and performs in various concerts throughout the year including the Christmas Carol Service. Each pupil attends hymn practice once a week.

A proportion of the work in music is linked to other areas of the curriculum; in particular singing supports the spiritual ethos of the school by active participation in the Mass and other religious celebrations held throughout the year.

Many children in Key Stage 2 learn to play an orchestral instrument from peripatetic music teachers who visit the school weekly. Currently, children at St Patrick’s may choose to learn the trumpet, trombone, French horn, violin and clarinet, which are taught in school. Brass instrumentalists are also supported in taking music examinations at the Centre for Young Musicians, Westminster.

Music concerts are performed at various points in the year:
  • Carol concert at Christmas
  • An annual Christmas Carol performance for elderly residents at a local sheltered accommodation home
  • An Easter and Summer concert.
